Perfecting Imperfection: One Day At A Time
  • About Me

Music is my life. Everything can be expressed, handled or just felt more deeply with the right chord or phrase. I have been blessed with some amazing friends and am still at that point where my life is an open book. If you’d like, stick around for a bit and help me write a few chapters…

.01 Seconds

August 16th, 2008

Stupid freakin’ NBC and their Olympic monopoly. I wanted to show you Phelps’ amazing 100m fly swim last night which was easily the greatest minute of Olympic competition I’ve ever seen. But, nooooooo, NBC wouldn’t allow me to embed it. /rant So if you haven’t seen this swim to gold, I won’t spoil it for you. Just make sure you check it out on the NBC site even if they currently suck at life.

Phenomenal Photos From The Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony

Finally, the Olympics are here, and there is SO much to be excited for.  Is the USA Basketball team ready to reclaim gold? Can Phelps walk away with eight medals and records? Will the men gymnastic team do it without the Hamm twins?  Are you ready for it?

The Love Between Former Teammates Is Touching

June 24th, 2008

I probably shouldn’t be passing this along. I’m sure many of youmight be offended by the content in this video.  However, if you dispise Kobe as much as I do,  you just may find this video of Shaq rapping about Kobe, his marriage, and the Celtics’ pounding of the Lakers hilarious.  Of course, what I want more than anything is for Shaq to focus less on his illustrious music career and more on his basketball game, but beggars can’t be chosers.

For your watching pleasure, I present Shaq tells of his love for Kobe through his deep and meaningful lyrics. (If it gets stuck in your head, I apologize now.  Also, very few other ResNetters understood or enjoyed this video.  I’m such a rarity around these parts.)

Celtics – 98, Lakers – 88

June 6th, 2008

Game 1 goes to the Celtics. One down… three to go. If you didn’t see the game, I have two words for you: Paul Pierce. What a warrior!!! Hearing the crowd erupt as he came back into the game gave me chills. (Thank goodness for dvr.) Did you also catch the new Bird-Magic commercial? “Rivalries are born…” I can’t wait for game two on Sunday. On a lighter note, check out Chris Bosh’s NBA Finals segment on Leno. This kid cracks me up.

Déjà Vu

May 31st, 2008

Finally, the NBA finals are set to begin Thursday night.  Boston Celtics vs LA Lakers.  These teams are no strangers to facing each other in the Finals.  They’ve met ten times in the past with Boston walking away with the championship eight times.  I grew up in the Bird-Magic era with a father who was just as fanatical about LB as Zac is about Favre.  No. 33 was the hero in our 80′s sports story, and I still believe today there would have been no Air Jordan domination if Johnson and Bird hadn’t have paved the way and rejuvenated the sport that I love so much. While this isn’t 1984, the NBA needs a reason to believe again: a reason for its fans to feel good about their loyalty.

Usually I’d find it hard to be too overwhelmingly passionate about a series not featuring the Suns, but this Celtics vs Lakers series is what I’ve been hoping for for the past month.  (I even cheered for the Lakers over the Spurs and felt dirty.  That’s how much I hate San Antonio.)  Can Kobe finally be the superhero in the finals and not just the trusty sidekick?  Is the PGA (Pierce, Garnett, and Allen) tour ready to start the newest Boston dynasty and get the rings they’ve coveted for the past decade?  Can this series remind us why we love this game?  We’ll find the answers out soon enough.

Talk About Laying The Smack Down

May 23rd, 2008

I found this on FarkSports this week and have since been pondering if my brother and dad would recreate it for me… Maybe for $5.

Better Find Your Dancing Shoes

March 19th, 2008

It’s that time of year again… March Freakin’ Madness! Holy crappamoly, am I excited! I wait all winter and early spring for the greatest 19 days of college men’s basketball where boys become men and athletes become legends. I remember being a lil girl and going with my dad and Uncle Jeff to see the first two rounds of the tournament and being completed enamored with the thrill of the game and getting to watch some of the future NBA stars vie for an NCAA championship. Of course, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve pondered if part of the reason they brought me along was because it was hard to refuse an autograph to a freckled, chubby cheeked girl. But, who am I to complain?!?!

Beyond calling in sick to watch my favorite teams play and screaming at the tv during those nail-biting, overtime upsets, one of the best parts of the tournament has to be the office bracket pools, and this year is no different. (Click here if you’d like to join in the fun.) I’ve seen men (and women) take longer to pick their 64 game winners than to do their taxes, study for an exam, or even buy a car. Should you choose your favorite team to advance further than they logically should or will that 13 seed upset that favored 4 seed? This is serious business, people. Click To Continue Reading…

Super Weekend, Super Recap

February 7th, 2008

Much of my week last week was spent trying to avoid and eventually succumbing to the dreaded bird-flu. Exhaustion and fever were the name of that game and despite the fact that the #1 recommendation for getting over the flu is tons of rest, I decided to make this past weekend a fun-filled, jam-packed three days of goodness. I mean, if the soul isn’t rejuvenated… does it matter if the body is well?

After returning to work on Friday for half a day, Matt, Cory and I decided to check out the new Daniel Day Lewis movie, “There Will Be Blood”. While none of us knew exactly what the movie was about, we had heard rave reviews of Lewis’s performance and knew it was loosely based on the oil boom at the turn-of-the century. It’s no wonder this film has received the praise it has. Lewis is phenomenal, and the story is intense and well-told. Without giving any more away… Let me just say, go see it!

Saturday began with a two-hour shopping trip to stock up on everything we needed for our Super Bowl XLII party before dropping by one of the kids club kid’s birthday party. After cake and the birthday song, I met Jeff to head to Phoenix for the Super Bowl Saturday Night celebration at Tempe Town Lake where Counting Crows were putting on a free concert. Despite the horrendous opening band, Boys Like Girls, the night was full of awesome music. Adam Duritz was enthusiastic and flawless as he gifted the crowd with classic CC songs. From Anna Begins to Holiday In Spain every CC fan in attendance left satisfied.

Being Sick Is No Fun

January 31st, 2008

Despite all of my best efforts, I caught the dreaded flu virus that half of my student staff has. After a day filled with shivering, cold sweats and feeling woozy, I crawled into bed yesterday afternoon and slept for twenty-two straight hours with a few brief moments of lucidity. Apparently, my coma-like state was what my body needed because my fever is finally gone, and I’m starting to feel a bit more human. I’m hoping I’ll feel well enough to go back to work tomorrow, but more importantly, I need to rejoin the world of the living before the big game Sunday. Priorities, people. Priorities.

Big Pat Burke… Livin’ The Dream

January 28th, 2008

In an effort to move on and out of mourning after the Packers’ loss last weekend, I’ve immersed myself in Phoenix Suns basketball. No matter how awesome the guys look this season, I still find myself missing the Irish ‘dreamboat’ Pat Burke. Since Pat left and joined the Golden State Warriors, it’s hard to know if I miss his crazy antics or 4th quarter, 3-point prayers the most. Just in case your heart aches to once again ‘live the dream’… here’s a best of video trilogy to keep your love alive. (At least, we still have Leandro.)
