Now You’re Out There Spinning
August 7th, 2008Why do some songs enter our daily lives to disappear into the wind, while others attach themselves to our cores and haunt us? Today’s musical offerings have done just that to me. I’m not usually a female vocalist lover. I don’t tend to gravitate to songs with synthetic sounds. There’s no logical reason that this trio should so profoundly mark my week, but thanks to the shuffle feature on my iPod last Saturday, they have.
Maybe it’s all the newness and change in my life. I’ve felt lately like I’m molting and leaving the old skin behind. It’s an age-old truth. In order to keep growing we have to clean up cob-webbed covered emotions and trim back the branches of those relationships that have long since stopped bearing fruit. However, instead of laying awake pondering why my subconscious is obsessed with these songs, I present them to you not for their depths of untold meaning but because maybe it’s time “to shed that skin you’ve been tripping in.”
Plumb – Damaged : “I didn’t say all the things that I wanted to say. And you can’t take back what you’ve taken away. ‘Cause I feel you, I feel you near me.”

Bird York – In The Deep : “Thought you had all the answers to rest your heart upon. But something happens, don’t see it coming, now you can’t stop yourself. Now you’re out there swimming… In the deep.”

And breathe me.”

Music is my life. Everything can be expressed, handled or just felt more deeply with the right chord or phrase. I have been blessed with some amazing friends and am still at that point where my life is an open book. If you’d like, stick around for a bit and help me write a few chapters…
