Perfecting Imperfection: One Day At A Time
  • About Me

Music is my life. Everything can be expressed, handled or just felt more deeply with the right chord or phrase. I have been blessed with some amazing friends and am still at that point where my life is an open book. If you’d like, stick around for a bit and help me write a few chapters…

Absolute Musical Perfection

January 12th, 2008

There are very few songs that have the ability to take over a moment no matter where I am, who I’m with or what I’m doing. Bonnie Raitt’s I Can’t Make You Love Me is the epitome of a time-stopping song for me. The marriage of her flawless delivery and Bruce Hornsby on the keyboard is the complete package in my world… stunning vocals, raw lyrics, and a haunting melody, what more do you need? Even if you’ve never been in a relationship where you were the unloved, it’s impossible to listen to her confession, “Morning will come, and I’ll do whats right. Just give me ’til then to give up this fight“, and not ache for her. It’s no secret that I’m a huge sucker for sad songs. However, it’s not the depressing lack of love that draws me into this song. Instead, it’s the honesty of wanting to be the ‘someone who matters most’ to the one you love and knowing in the end as hard as you try and as much as you plead… “I cant make you love me if you don’t. You can’t make your heart feel something it won’t… There’s no use trying, baby.”
